Case histories
To have a closer look on our ORC's we want to show you our technology in detail.
Kornwestheim, Germany
Facts at a glance
- Customer: KWA Bioenergie GmbH & Co. Kraftwerk Römerhügel KG
- Application: Biogas
- Model: Cyplan® ORC 70 HT CHP
- Heat source: Jenbacher jms 312 (526 kW)
- Heat extraction: hot water at 90° C (residual heat network)
- Location: Kornwestheim, Germany
- Description: engine exhaust gas
- Status: in operation since 2013
What is our solution?
For this project, we have installed a Cyplan® ORC 70 HT CHP as a suitable ORC module, which provides about 275 kWth. The flexible heat extraction up to 95° C leads to our untouched heat condenser. Another advantage is that this compact module is very space-saving. This project and the predominant innovation was supported by the Environmental Technology Award of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
What is the goal?
The customer generates electricity and heat in a biogas-fired combined heat and power plant (CHP). The heat generated is fed into a district heating network, which also covers the heat demand of the biogas plant in addition to a school center and industrial plants. To increase the electrical power output, an ORC system is to be installed, which converts the thermal energy of the CHP flue gas partly into electrical energy. The challenge here was the integration of the ORC system while maintaining the existing heat concept.
Why Cyplan ORC Technology?
The advantage of a Cyplan® ORC system, as in this case, is the great innovation due to the direct evaporation of the flue gas. The transmission losses of the ORC system are minimized by the simple integration, so that the system achieves the highest efficiency and the best efficiency. Due to the low number of wear parts, the customer will incur minimal maintenance costs, thus ensuring an overall economic package. This provides a basis for highest profitability. Furthermore, our systems have a heat extraction up to 90° C and a power-generating exhaust gas heat exchanger.
Without exception, in this performance class we are unrivaled in the Organic Rankine Cycle market.
Lahendong, Indonesia
Facts at a glance
- Customer: deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum
- Application: Geothermal Energy
- Model: Cyplan® ORC 500 LT
- Heat source: hot water intermediate loop
- Heat extraction: dry cooler
- Location: Lahendong, Indonesia
- Description: hot water
- Status: in operation since 2017
What is the goal?
The basis for this project is a geothermal steam turbine. Thermal water is pumped out of a geothermal well to the surface. With the help of a Seperators water is split off from the steam. The steam is used in a turbine to generate electricity. In order to increase the geothermal supply potential, the thermal energy of the remaining thermal water must be converted into electrical energy. The challenge here was the integration of the ORC plant while maintaining the upstream power generation process. In addition, the ORC module must have local environmental conditions and be able to handle network fluctuations.
What is our solution?
In this project, a Cyplan® ORC 500 LT was installed, which converts the hot water that would not otherwise be used for power generation into electrical energy, without affecting the operation of the proposed geothermal power plant.
Why Cyplan ORC Technology?
Due to the robust design of all plant components, long service lives are possible even under difficult conditions. The working medium used is selected individually depending on the framework conditions. This achieves high electrical efficiencies and significantly increases the efficiency of the entire process. Due to the low number of wear parts, the customer will incur minimal maintenance costs, thus ensuring an overall economic package. This provides a basis for highest profitability.
Groß-Gerau, Germany
Facts at a glance
- Customer: Stadtwerke Groß-Gerau Versorgungs GmbH
- Application: Biogas
- Model: Cyplan® ORC 70 HT CHP
- Status: in operation since 2012
- Heat source: MWM TCG 2016 V16C (800kW)
- Heat extraction: hot water at 90 °C (herb drying facility)
- Location: Groß-Gerau, Germany
- Description: engine exhaust gas
What is the goal?
The customer generates electricity and heat in a biogas-fired combined heat and power plant (CHP). The CHP generates more heat in the balance than can be used on the biogas plant. The installation of the ORC system should fundamentally change the heating concept. By installing the ORC system, the current efficiency is significantly increased and the waste heat of the ORC system delivers heat at a temperature level of 90° C for a neighboring herb drying plant.
The challenge here was the integration of the first commercial Cyplan CHP concept in the field. This innovation was later awarded the Environmental Technology Award of the State of Baden Württemberg.
